Robbie McDowall

Robbie McDowall MCIAT, BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology, MSc Arch Conservation

Director & Chartered Architectural Technologist

Robbie carried out his secondary school work experience within the company and would also help out on the occasional weekend, usually surveying existing properties. This was to inspire him in his choice of career and in 2000 joined the company following completion of his studies at Napier University, Edinburgh.

During his time with the company he has gone on to complete an MSc in Architectural Conservation at Edinburgh College of Art and plays a key role in our listed building projects. His architectural technology background is also a great asset when developing our construction drawings and inspecting works on site.

Robbie was appointed a director in 2017 when the practice was incorporated as a private limited company.

Ryan Watson

Ryan Watson ARB

Architect

Ryan’s passion for Architecture, construction and the built environment began with regular exposure and involvement in his father’s joinery business. With the experience gained from his father’s business and a keen and practical knowledge of timber framed construction, Ryan started his formal education in Architecture at the University of Dundee in 2007. He graduated in 2013 with a First Class Masters Degree, an achievement supported by a principal role in the Macro Micro Studio Project, for which he was jointly awarded the Guildry-Geddes Award for Urban Design in 2013.

Ryan then went on to carry out freelance design work before starting his Part 3 professional experience with Keppie in 2014, working on projects such as The Capitol, Aberdeen and Perth College Academy of Sport and Wellbeing. Ryan gained a position with Harry Taylor & Company in 2016 and went on to successfully complete his Part 3 examinations with the company in 2018, becoming a fully qualified Architect.

As well as being proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and Adobe Creative Suite, Ryan also has a strong enthusiasm for hand sketching and photography.

Stuart Brown

Stuart Brown BSc (Hons) Building Surveying

Building Surveyor

Stuart initially came to Harry Taylor & Company for work experience aged 15, during his third year at Perth Academy. Having enjoyed his time in the office he later came back over the summer months and this resulted in his decision to pursue a career in Building Surveying.

Stuart went on to graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying from Robert Gordon University in 2017. As part of his degree he gained invaluable experience working for Aberdeen City Council as a Trainee Building Standards Officer during a 3 month placement. Having kept in touch with us over the course of his studies we were delighted when Stuart joined us on a full time basis in June 2017 and he is currently working towards gaining chartered status with the RICS.

Ryan Harper

Ryan Harper BSc (Hons) Building Surveying

Building Surveyor

At the age of 15 Ryan enjoyed a week long work placement at Harry Taylor & Company during his October school holidays. That week allowed him to be involved in the measured survey of Blairs Home Farm and experience the use of AutoCAD for drafting both existing and proposed drawings.

During his final year at Perth Academy he took the decision to apply at Dundee College for a HND in Building Surveying and later gained direct entry into 3rd year at Robert Gordon University for BSc (Hons) Building Surveying.

During his 3rd year at university Ryan undertook an industrial placement at Harry Taylor & Company as part of his studies. Ryan showed great diligence and aptitude during this period and what was initially only a 12 week placement turned into 9 months of valuable employment experience.

Having returned to Robert Gordon University to complete his studies Ryan joined Harry Taylor & Company on a full time basis in June 2018.
